The action is up early and so should you. The Tampa Bay Rays have seem to have gotten their team back together after some early injuries to the position players and the pitching rotation as well. They have been steam rolling the competition and have won 9 of 10. James Shields will be taking the mound; facing a Blue Jays line up that has been struggling of late. They are hitting .226 in the last 7 days. This is quite prefreable to Shields who is 2-3 on the road with .271 BAA. Like Shields, this will be the first time this year that Ricky Romero has faced the oppositon. Romero has impressive home spilts, holding oppents to .220 BA with a 2.90 ERA. Playing the Rays which leads the majors in runs scored; they need someone to cut down that production. Also, Romero is lights out with runners in scoring position, being that he may find himself in this position several times today because the Rays leads the league in stolen bases, will be critical. He has a .217 BAA with runners on and .189 with RISP. The Blues Jays have only scored 12 runs in their last 5 games. Will, they turn it around today? Not sure. But with the Rays emerging back as the team they were last year, I expect Shields to put out a good pitching performance, matching that of Romero. I like the game total to go under.
Rays v. Blue Jays 8.5 un
The Chicago Cubs are 2-7 on this road trip. Derek Lee is hitting .208 and the Cubs have been shutout twice. In the last 7 days the cubs have a OBP lower than .300. They will be facing the Pirates Virgil Vazquez making his second start of the season. He had an impressive outing his first time out hold batters to .190 BA in inter-league play. He will be facing Randy Wells who also have been pitching good. He has held division opponents scoreless in two games. He doesn't have too many holes in his game other than he doesn't get much run support, The Cubs are last in the league in scoring runs in 7+ innings. I like the Pirates to win this series.
Nice call on the BlueJays, my southern california capper,
Starting to really like that Romero guy, nasty slider as a go to pitch.
Respectfully, WiseGuy1
