I am writing this thread to get some feed back from everyone and also to make a pick for myself. The last thread that I posted about East Carolina I was correct about so I figured I would try my luck again. I know for one thing that this football team and the entire Pirate Nation is ready for State to come into town. To look at a few trends State(1-5-0) is 2-6 ATS in their las 8 road games, 4-14 ATS in their last 18 games in October, and 2-6 ATS vs. a team with a winning record. ECU (4-3-0) is 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games after allowing more than 40 points in their previous game. Pirates are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games in October, 10-1 ATS in their last 11 games after accumulating more than 280 yards passing in their previous game, and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 against an ACC team. Skip holtz has been doing a very good job with this ECU offense lately, after winning in OT against UTEP who is #1 in their Conference USA division, I truly believe that the Pirates will cover this spread with ease. Watch Chris Johnson the best running back in Conference USA to run all over this pack defense. The beginning of the season was tough with playing at Vtech and at West Virginia, Even though many say that vtech just sucked it up, in which I believe this team held their own. Watch the pirates move to 5-3 this season and as they go 2-1 against ACC teams this year. I also look to the over to hit on this one at 54.5 as the Pirates are 5-0 on the over in their last 5 home games and as a home favorite. Over is also 5-0 at home vs a team with a losing record.
Thanks ecuman, Wish I could attend the game like im sure you are doing but I'm flying to D.C. for a wedding. If you cant tell I'm a student at ECU like im sure you are. But give the pack hell for me
Tickets are hard to come by for this game boys and that makes me even more excited about it. Up here in the capital city, my wife is a Pirate, which a win would bode well for me, know what I mean!!! We will will give the Pack absolute hell on Saturday. No Question.
AAARRRGGGHHH!!!!! Mr. Berg, I wish that I were still a student. I spent 4 great years at ECU '71-'75, the student population was 11,000, of which 7,000 were female - great odds for an 18 year old with raging hormones! The coaches were Sonny Randle ('71-'73) and Pat Dye ('74-'79, 48-18, .724 win pct) - Lou Holtz (31-11-2) was at NC State coaching the Buckey twins.
A couple of memories for you!
1975 - Ficklen Stadium is enlarged to seat 35,000, and the East Carolina University football team defeats the University of North Carolina by a score of 38-17. THIS WAS AN AWESOME DAY!!
1991 - We attended the Peach Bowl in Atlanta. WE BELIEVE!!! The ECU football teams goes against NC State to bring home a 37-34 Peach Bowl victory. The team finishes the season ranked ninth in the nation. Jeff Blake threw for over 200 yards in the 4th quarter to lead the comeback.

Traditions:
Purple Haze - The classic Jimi Hendrix tune is played prior to the start of every home football game as the Pirates take to the field through a cloud of purple smoke. The team entrance was enhanced in 2002 with the addition of an inflatable tunnel that leads from the new Murphy Center to the west end zone.

Why Pirates?
Pirates were sea-going bandits in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. It has been reported that in the age of piracy, from around 1680 to 1725, there were about 10,000 pirates who sailed the high seas in search of bounty.
Although most pirates were feared, they were not the uncivilized roughnecks that they have been portrayed in modern times. The had many positive features. David Cordingly, the author of "Under the Black Flag: The Romance and Reality of Life Among the Pirates," noted some of their good traits.
# Pirates observed the democratic process by electing their own captains and voting on whether to attack other vessels. They also decided together on when and where to sail.
# In most cases their loot was divided fairly.
# They developed an early kind of disability payment that paid for body parts lost in battle.
# Pirate ships offered equal opportunity for blacks and whites.
# Sailors on pirate ships lived by specific rules. Gambling, for example, was not permitted on ships. Pirates could smoke on board, but not below deck after dark.
East Carolina University adopted Pirates as an athletic namesake because the school is located near the North Carolina coast where pirates often harbored their ships. Edward Teach, known as "Blackbeard," had property in Bath and on Ocracoke Island. The remains of one of Blackbeard's ships, the Queen Anne's Revenge, was recently found near Beaufort, N.C.
East Carolina's athletic teams became the Pirates in 1934, according to the late ECU historian Mary Jo Bratton. She reported that the Men's Athletic Association wanted a name to inspire "more spirit and enthusiasm." The football, baseball and basketball teams back then were called "Teachers." The Tecoan, the college yearbook, introduced the pirate motif in its 1934 edition.

The Ghost on The Wind
Like a ghost on the wind
He comes from the sea,
And trembles the foe
Like a storm on the lee.
With swashbuckling swagger
And a Jolly Roger laugh,
He flies the black flag
On a whalebone staff.
He has a black-patched eye
And a ring in his ear,
And on his wind-burned face,
A crusty-grizzled beard.
With a bone-cold glare
And a sneer on his lip,
He has a cannon by his side
And a cutlass in his grip.
With a thunderous blast
From his cannon's might,
He shivers the strong
And cripples their fight.
He takes what he's lost
And turns it to gold,
For He's crafty and shrewd
And He's fearless and bold.
He's dashing and daring,
A fierce buccaneer,
For the sight of his plunder
Pales many with fear.
From East Carolina
Victories are told
Of the Spirit of the Pirate
And his purple and gold!
