Cleveland Indians at New York Yankees
We have two teams that would be heading to the postseason if it started today getting together. The Cleveland Indians will take on the New York Yankees to start a series. This is the best pitching matchup on Monday in Major League Baseball.

The Cleveland Indians are 73-56 on the season and have won four straight games. The Indians have won 5 out of their last 7 games. In the most recent three game sweep over the Royals, they kept Kansas City without a run the entire series.

The New York Yankees are 70-59 on the season. The Yankees are in second place in the American League East. New York trails Boston by 2.5 in the division. The Yankees lead the wildcard over Minnesota by 3.5 games.

Corey Kluber goes for the Cleveland Indians. The former Cy Young winner is having another Cy Young type season. Kluber is 12-4 on the season with a 2.65 earned run average. In 152.2 innings, Kluber has struck out 208 batters.

For the New York Yankees, Luis Severino is 11-5 on the season. Severino has thrown over 156 innings, and struck out 183 batters, and walked 42. Severino has a 3.10 earned run average on the season.

The Indians offense is on fire. They have the tools to get to Severino, despite being on the road. We are taking the surging Cleveland Indians in this game over the Yankees.

Pick: Cleveland Indians -110 over New York Yankees

    • August 29 - Tampa Bay Rays at Kansas City Royals
Another big time Play of the Day winner last night! Boom! Winners of 3 out our last 4 Major League Baseball Play of the Day picks!

As Rodney calls tonightís game Ė Easy Money. The Kansas City Royals are some kind of terrible baseball team right now. After not scoring all weekend against the Indians, the Rays blanked the Royals again Monday night. Kansas City is DEAD in the American League Wildcard chase. A team that is NOT dead is the Tampa Bay Rays. This team keeps crushing baseballís over the wall.

Now, in this game, the Rays have the pitching advantage. Alex Cobb is one of the most underrated pitchers in Major League Baseball. Sure, he is 9-8 on the season, but we keep hearing about how win loss record is overrated, right? Cobb keeps his offense in every game he throws

Jake Junis will pitch for Kansas City. Junis is 5-2 on the season, but a high earned run average. The slugging Tampa Bay offense got comfortable Monday night in Kansas City, and that will carry right over. This will be the third straight win for the Rays, and get them a step closer to competing for an AL Wildcard spot.

Pick: Tampa Bay Rays +105 over Kansas City Royals

      • August 30- St. Louis Cardinals at Milwaukee Brewers

Simply put. Carlos Martinez and the Cardinals beat the Milwaukee Brewers. This is the second and final game of the series, and the Cardinals win them both.

Bet the St. Louis Cardinals -120 over Milwaukee Brewers

        • August 31 - Green Bay Packers vs. Los Angeles Rams

Itís the preseason finale. Do not take much stock into preseason games. But, for the sake of the Play of the Day Ė we have a game that we love. The Packers are a much better, deeper, and talented team. Look for the Packers to get ready for the regular season, with a win at home over the Rams.

Bet the Green Bay Packers -3 over the Los Angeles Rams

          • September 1, 2017 - Texas Rangers vs. Los Angeles Angels

It's Cole Hamels against the Los Angeles Angels. We are going BACK to the well with Cole Hamels, despite him getting roughed up as our Play of the Day last time. It's the start of the final month of the regular season. The Rangers still have an outside chance to get to the postseason, while the Angels are hanging in the wildcard race. The Rangers NEED to win this game to avoid falling 3.5 back of the Angels.

Hamels needs one more win to get to 10 on the season. The lefthander has a 3.78 earned run average on the season. He will be facing Tyler Skaggs of the Angels. Skaggs is 1-4 on the season. Despite not having Adrian Beltre, the Rangers offense is too good to be slowed down too much by Skaggs.

Bet the Texas Rangers -110 over the Los Angeles Angels

            • September 3, 2017- Texas A+M Aggies at UCLA Bruins

Kevin Sumlin is on the hot seat for the Texas A+M Aggies. While that may seem like momentum for his team to pick up a great Week 1 game Ė not going to happen. There may not be a more overrated program in College Football than the Texas A+M Aggies. Sure, College Station is not in the Hurricane path that struck last week, but too many distractions for many of the athletes for Texas A+M.

Now they have to go on the road to Los Angeles and take on one of the best quarterbacks in the country. Josh Rosen is going to have a monster season. Look for the Pac-12 to beat the SEC in this game.

Bet the UCLA Bruins -3.5 over Texas A+M Aggies

              • September 4, 2017- Tennessee Volunteers at Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Well, letís see if this can go better than the UCLA/Texas A+M debacle.

Itís the 44th meeting between these two schools. The Volunteers are favorites in this game, while Georgia Tech has a little bit of the home crowd advantage. This game will be played at the home of the Falcons Ė the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Both teams have high expectations for the season. The Volunteers will have to navigate out of the SEC all season, while the Yellow Jackets contend in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The Volunteers took a big blow when they found out their top linebacker Austin Smith would miss this game. That will hurt them defensively against the vaunted run of the Yellow Jackets.

Georgia Tech is anchored by 10th year coach Paul Johnson. He will continue to run the football, and make an effort at slowing down opponents.

Look for a well played game, but in the end, this game is going to the deeper team Ė and thatís Tennessee.

Bet the Tennessee Volunteers -3.5 over Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

                • September 5, 2017 - Arizona Diamondbacks at Los Angeles Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers are not the team they were a couple weeks ago. Sure, they have the best record in the National League, but there is no doubt who the hottest team in the league is now. Thatís the Arizona Diamondbacks. Now, the Diamondbacks and Dodgers play, with Arizona using their ace.

Zack Greinke will throw for the Diamondbacks in this game. The righthanded ace has 16 wins, which is tied with Zach Davies at the top of the National League. Greinke has an ERA of 3.08 on the season, which is near the top as well. Look for Greinke to pitch a solid game, despite being on the road at the Dodgers.

Los Angeles counters with Hyun-Jin Ryu. He is 5-7 on the season with a 3.71 earned run average. Ryu is very hittable, and the Diamondbacks offense is one of the best in the league. Look for Arizona to score a few early runs, and give Greinke enough to win this game.

Bet the Arizona Diamondbacks +115 over Los Angeles Dodgers

                  • September 6, 2017 - Chicago Cubs at Pittsburgh Pirates
The Chicago Cubs travel to PNC Park to face the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Cubs send lefty Jose Quintana, who is 9-11 on the season, to pitch to the big righty bats in the Pirates lineup.

Pittsburgh has ace Gerrit Cole and his 11-9 record.

The Cubs are 29-39 in the run line while the Pirates are six games over the .500 mark at home.

Look for McCutchen, Freese, Marte and Bell to unload on this pitcher. Take Pirates.

Collect on Pirates +125 at home

                    • September 7, 2017 - New England Patriots vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Okay, here we go. Time to get red hot with the National Football League and our Play of the Day selections. The defending Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots are at home to start the season. They trailed 28-3, and came from behind to beat the Atlanta Falcons last season in the Super Bowl. Their Week 1 opponent is a playoff team from a season ago, in the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs have been one of the toughest regular season teams over the last several seasons.

Tom Brady and the Patriots are one of the toughest teams to figure out in all of sports. While they are always good, you never really know who to expect to have a big game. Rob Gronkowski appears to be healthy and ready to go in this game. Gronkowski is the most elite tight end in the National Football League, but injuries have hampered him the last several seasons.

Alex Smith will get the nod as the starting quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs. Smith is nothing more than a steady quarterback. Smith will play ahead of rookie quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who was the first round pick for Andy Reid and his Chiefs. Tyreke Hill is a dude to watch for Kansas City, as he has some of the best speed in all of the league. The Patriots are said to be double teaming him all over the field in this game.

The Patriots are without Julian Edleman, their top receiver, but will use Brandin Cooks, who came over from the Saints, and should lead their receiving unit. The Chiefs are without Spencer Ware. Those two players got hurt on the same day. Kareem Hunt is expected to be the leading running back for Kansas City.

This should be a fun game. The Patriots are going to win this game, but Kansas City should be able to cover the spread. The Chiefs do a great job of taking care of the football, and have enough defense where they can keep the Patriots at bay. New England wins the game, and Kansas City covers the spread.

Bet the Kansas City Chiefs +8.5 over the New England Patriots

                      • September 8, 2017 - UCF Knights vs. Memphis Tigers

The Central Florida Knights and Memphis Tigers will square off on Friday night, as the game was pushed up to the Hurricane Irma heading towards Central Florida. Both teams come into the game with a 1-0 record. The Memphis Tigers downed Louisiana-Monroe 37-29 in the opener, while Central Florida came away with a 61-17 win in their opener over Florida International.

The Knights should win this game. They are a team and a program that is ready to take the next step and get to a big time bowl game this season. The Knights are going to have to compete with South Florida at the top of the American Conference. In the win against Florida International; McKenzie Milton tossed for 4 touchdowns and 360 yards. His top target was Dredrick Snelson with 4 receptions in the game.

Memphis got bad news when they lost their linebacker Jason Dillon to a shoulder injury for the rest of the season. The Tigers were a great rushing team a week ago, as Darrell Henderson anchored the attack with 12 carries, 169 yards and 2 touchdowns in the game.

This should be a fun game, but itís going to belong to Central Florida. The spread is not enough for the Tigers to cover in this game. Central Florida takes down Memphis.

Central Florida Knights -3.5 over Memphis Tigers

                        • September 9, 2017 - Iowa Hawkeyes vs. Iowa State Cyclones
In a state rivalry game on Saturday, the Iowa State Cyclones will host the Iowa Hawkeyes. This game will be played at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames Iowa. The Iowa Hawkeyes are a small favorite in this game on the road. 70% of the country likes Iowa to win this game over their rivals. A season ago, the Hawkeyes welcomed the Cyclones to Iowa City and beat them by 39 points. The two teams scored just a total of 45 points last season.

This season the total is listed at 49. This has the makings of an under play. Iowa is pretty good defensively. The under is a lean for now. Letís get to our bet.

The Iowa Hawkeyes are going to win this game, and cover the spread. The team that has a chance to compete in the Big Ten is going to beat a bottom feeder out of the Big 12. Iowa was impressive defensively in the 24-3 win in Week 1 over Wyoming. Wyoming may be just as good offensively as the Cyclones will be on Saturday. For Iowa on offense, they struggled, but saw running back Akrum Wadley have a big night.

For Iowa State Ė no matter how they competed in their opener against Northern Iowa, they still are not very good. The Cyclones are going to have a tough time finding 6 wins on their 2017 schedule again this season. Iowa State was better offensively, with 42 points, but against a non BCS Panthers team.

Iowa shows Iowa State who the boss is, in state.

Iowa Hawkeyes -3 over Iowa State Cyclones

                            Monday NFL
                            Chargers -3.5
                            Saints +3.5

                            • September 10, 2017 - Carolina Panthers vs. San Francisco 49ers

The National Football League is back! We are going to make this pretty short and sweet. Yes, we understand a season ago, the San Francisco 49ers were a shocking winner and blasted their Week 1 opponent. They were better than people thought to start the season. But, this is a new opponent. The Carolina Panthers are the team that will take on the 49ers this time.

Cam Newton is going to play ticked off this season. He had a pretty poor season last year, and is ready to have a major bounce back season here. San Francisco has a new head coach this season, but it's still much of the same roster they had a season ago. The Carolina Panthers are going to go on the road and roll over the 49ers in this game.

Carolina Panthers -5 over San Francisco 49ers

                              • September 11, 2017 - Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Colorado Rockies

Look, the National Football League is in action tonight, and thatís the main ticket for Monday Night. We get it. But, the Knup Sports crew cannot recommend either game to you with enough confidence to bring it to you as the Play of the Day. So, to Major League Baseball we go.

Zack Greinke and the Arizona Diamondbacks are in action at home against the Colorado Rockies. The Rockies are the hot team right now, with four straight wins. But, itís time for the National League Wildcard leading team to do what they have done for much of the season Ė beat the Rockies. Look for a strong outing from Greinke, and the Arizona bats to batter the Rockies pitching.

Arizona Diamondbacks -182 over Colorado Rockies.
