How to bet the NBA
Guys, we are up to nearly 900 registered members in less than five months. Thanks for helping us grow so quickly. We apologize for the growing pains associated with the growth (the site being inaccessible on some days due to high traffic). We are working on upgrading the hosting account to alleviate this problem but it's taking more time than expected. Should be fixed this week.
This article will be short yet hopefully informative - How to Bet the NBA (by IndianCowboy)...
When I cap the NBA, I actually pay very little attention to stats and offensive numbers.
To me, the NBA is about revenge, rest, trends, injuries, home court and coaching. After all, each of these teams have the talent level for the most part to compete with the other - hence, they are in the NBA.
After all, we have seen the Trailblazers beat the Lakers, Seattle having the capcaity to beat a bunch of teams and we even saw the Hornets take care of Houston at Houston eariler this year.
Any team can beat any other team, for the most part, and more importantly, stay at least close for a cover.
Did you think the Mavs were going to blow out Memphis on the road a while back? Remember what happened? Memphis lost by 1. Remember when the Mavs hit the road at Milwaukee? Milwaukee led nearly the entire game only to lose in the end. How about when the Pistons visited the Bucks on the short few point spread, you got it, the Bucks led a good portion only to give up the lead late and lose but still cover.
So when you are capping games, stats are useful, but I firmly feel that they are more useful in college than in the NBA where on any given night, anything can happen. How about the game in which the Kings defeated the Bulls with revenge.
Or, how about the game in which the Sixers went on the road to beat Denver outright in the first game with AI facing off against his old team.
The NBA is about revenge, injuries, trends, home court and even off-court events that take place. For example, when the Trailblazers went on the road to face the Wizards and remember when Gilbert talked up a big game about dropping 50 on this team b/c he felt snubbed by the USA Basketball association and vowed to get back at each coach for making such a decision? Consequently, Coach Nate is part of USA Basketball and Arenas had poured it on in Phoenix and promised to do so again against Portland.
Guess what? He spoke too soon and too often as Portland was relentless and pounded the Wizards on the road and held Arenas to pitifully low shooting numbers that night.
Once again, when you cap the NBA, cap the game with relation to revenge factors, trends, injuries, matchups, off-court events, days of rest, travel and why one team would "get-up" for another team.
Just a note and a tought as the NBA Season progresses as I hope this will at least help you win one more wager and lose one less wager during this NBA Season.
Take care,
IC
