    EIGHT WAYS TO ATTACK ANY ZONE:

    #1. Don’t wait for the Zone to Set-Up! Therefore Fast Break the Zone, or take every opportunity you get to, As an Offense, Beat the Zone Down The Court and try to Capitalize on the Numbers, Especially the Bigs, by filling the lanes AND Passing the Ball Upcourt. Through out the Game, It will tire out the defense!

    #2. PRIMARY!! Your offensive set should START WITH YOUR ATTACKERS WHERE THE ZONE ISN’T! YOU CAN’T TRY TO BEAT THE ZONE BY BEATING THE MAN IN FRONT OF YOU! (As you would vs. a man to man defense) In otherwords also, you cannot attempt to attack the zone by standing around against the zone. If it’s a 2-1-2, you’re offense could be a 1-3-1 set. If it’s a 2-3 Zone, then you may start with a 3-2 set, and then shift 2 or 3 players, to open spots BEHIND THE ZONE or IN FRONT OF THE ZONE inside or outside of the Zone to make the Zone move. EVEN IF YOU SEND A CUTTER LOOKING FOR A PASS THROUGH THE ZONE, TO WATCH HOW THE ZONE WILL COLLAPSE. I.E. MOVEMENT WITHOUT THE BALL. THIS WILL CREATE GAPS IN THE ZONE!! THEN ATTACK THE GAPS! Then you must have tandem teammate(s) movement to the open spot, or offensive rebounding spot, once you’ve occupied the interior zone defenders.

    #3. DISTORT THE ZONE. Make the zone shift by moving offensive players to different spots, (elbow, high posts, low posts, mid-post *Corners, short corners. Then using angle passes and bounces passes. Fake Passes and shots and watch how the zone reacts, from different spots on the court. Ball and player movement is Key to beating the Zone. MAKE THE ZONE WORK WITH PLAYER MOVEMENT TO "OPEN SPOTS IN THE ZONE, AND WITH QUICK ANGLE PASSING!!

    #4. OLD - SCHOOL - OVERLOAD THE ZONE. IF YOU’RE GONNA TRY TO START WITH A "SET-ZONE OFFENSE, overload the zone by setting a LOW POST and HIGH POST BIG MAN ON THE SAME SIDE AS A WING AND A SHOOTING GUARD IN THE CORNER, and PLAY A TRIANGLE PASSING OFFENSE 4- ON - 3! THEN WHEN THE LOW POST HAS TO SHIFT TO THE CORNER, YOU CAN GET CUTTERS FROM THE WEAK SIDE OF THE ZONE TO THE SHORT CORNERS! OR YOU CAN SCREEN THE BOTTOM OF THE ZONE, NOT THE TOP OF THE ZONE!! NEUTRALIZING DEFENSIVE SIZE INSIDE!!

    BACK TO THE GAME;

    BUT #5: I DON’T NECESSARILY RECOMMEND WHICH IS SCREEN THE ZONE. unless is done with Back Screens or to free players to open spots. Or it is a part of player movement without the ball to get a player into open spots.

    #5. SCREEN THE ZONE

    #6. DRIBBLE PENETRATE THE ZONE - Dribble penetrating the zone is easier from an angle not from the top. Especially after sending "CUTTERS AT DEFENDERS THROUGH THE ZONE" NOT into the defenders to MAKE THE ZONE REACT AND SHIFT.

    #7. OFFENSIVE REBOUND THE ZONE. THE BIGGEST WEAKNESS OF THE ZONE IS BLOCKING OUT AFTER THE SHOT! SO GET SOME SHOTS UP AFTER CAUSING THE ZONE TO SHIFT AND DISTORT AND GET GOOD OFFENSIVE REBOUNDING POSITION.

    #8. SHOOT OVER THE ZONE .

    WORK THE BALL INSIDE OUT FROM THE CORNERS , OR THE FREE THROW LINE EXTENDED. OR AT AN ANGLE, TO CREATE BETTER PASSING ANGLES. THEN, KICK THE PASSES IN AND BACK OUT TO SHOOTERS, TO THEN SHOOT OVER THE ZONE. FROM THE KICK OUT PASSING.

    #9. BONUS. ATTACK THE WEAK SIDE OF THE ZONE. OF Course this get back to the MAIN WAY TO BEAT THE ZONE! YOU MUST DISTORT THE ZONE WITH THE MOVEMENT AND POSITIONING OF YOUR PLAYERS. WITH DIRECTIONAL PASSING. THAT CREATES A WEAK SIDE. OR AFTER OVERLOADING THE ZONE AS IN #4. THE OVERLOAD SIDE IS YOUR STRONG SIDE. THEN SET YOUR BEST OFFENSIVE PLAYER ON THE WEAK SIDE AND WATCH HIM(HER) DESTROY THAT ZONE!!

    PARK LEAGUE, HIGH SCHOOL, AND COLLEGE COACHES TAKE NOTE. OR TEACH YOUR GRANDKIDS!
