Robert Gsellman was one of the hottest Spring Training pitchers and was the stats leader for the Mets. Then he fell apart in his season opener by having a 0-1 record with an earned run average of 4.50 and a WHIP of 1.67. He has 8 strikeouts in his 6 innings pitched and he's given up 8 hits. The Marlins are off to a good start with a 4-3 record and Giancarlo Stanton is crushing the ball in the early part of the season. Wei-Yin Chen has an earned run average of 1.50 and a 1-0 record with a 1.33 WHIP. He has 5 strikeouts over the 6 innings he's pitched. He has also given up 7 hits. Take the Marlins at home -125 to cover.

The Tigers have a 4-4-0 over/under record and a 3-5-0 run line mark and the Indians are 2-6-0 against the run line and have a 3-4-1 over/under record. Starting pitcher Daniel Norris has a 0-0 record with an earned run average of 4.26 and a WHIP of 1.58. He has 2 strikeouts over his 6.1 innings pitched and he’s given up 7 hits and Trevor Bauer has an earned run average of 6.35 and a 0-1 record with a 1.24 WHIP. He has 7 strikeouts over the 5.2 innings. Cleveland is hitting .206 on the young season while the Tigers are not much better at .213. The Tigers are 6-3 on the season as we take the Detroit Tigers +132 to cover.

The Cavs struggled the last few weeks of the season and Boston passed them. The Pacers All-Star small forward Paul George led the charge over the last five games, averaging 30.8 points on 56.9 percent shooting while recording three double-doubles in that span. I am sticking with the hot team to cover so take Indiana +9 on the road in Game 1.

We talk about offense when Russell Westbrook and James Harden are in the discussion. Harden puts up 29 points per game but the one all are talking about is Russell Westbrook who comes into this game averaging 31.6 points per contest while playing 34.6 minutes per night so far this year for the Thunder. He pulls down 10.7 rebounds per contest and dishes out 10.4 assists per game as well. A triple-double machine. What makes this game close is the Rockets can’t stop anyone as they allow over 109 points per game. Take OKC +7 to cover on the road.

Yes, many including myself bought into this public perception that OKC was going to Thunder on the Rockets. But what we forgot to do was "look at the stats" not the heart.

For example, Rockets have absolutely owned the Thunder this season and the past couple seasons as well. Rockets are 7-3 straight up in the last 10 meetings. Houston is also 8-1-1 against the spread in those instances.
James Harden knows he is not going to win the MVP, therefore, he had extra motivation in this contest to let people know he deserved it.

                It was public ignorance.

Always remember that it is best to use the numbers in from of you not what your heart sees.

APRIL 17, 2017 - PLAY OF THE DAY

All those righty batters like Giancarlo Stanton tee off against lefty Miranda who suffered in his last start as he was reached for four runs on seven hits and two walks with five strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings. Martin Prado returns for the Marlins and we take them +105 to cover on the road. Bet Miami Marlins +105!

Lefty Brian Johnson will get his first start after being called up from AAA for Boston. Eduardo Rodriguez (0-1, 5.23) was scratched as his wife had a baby. The "over/under" has gone under in his past nine starts The Jays are 4-1 in Stroman's past five at home vs. Boston.overall. Marcus Stroman gets the ball for Toronto as he is 1-1 on the season with a 1.76 ERA. Take Toronto Blue Jays -154 at home.

On April 8th, the Rockies busted Clayton Kershaw (2-1, 2.53 ERA) for three homers and defeated him. He is home and looking for some revenge. The Rockies counter with Tyler Anderson (1-2, 8.59 ERA. He hasn’t gone into the 6th inning yet this season. The Dodgers are 13-1 in Kershaw's past 14 at home vs. the Rockies. The over is 5-1 in his past six in L.A. against them. Take the OVER 6.5 runs.

Always tough to take an OVER against Kershaw!

APRIL 20, 2017 - PLAY OF THE DAY

The Cavs Big 3 was excellent as Kyrie Irving had 37 points, LeBron James had 25 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists, and Kevin Love put up 27 points and 11 rebounds. For the Pacers, Paul George has 32 points. Then he turned around and called out Myles Turner and Lance Stephenson after Game 2. That doesn't make for a cohesive group. The game may be a 6-7 point game but no way any closer than that. Take Cleveland on the road at -2.5.

The Braves lead all of baseball in the OVER department at 9-5. The Phillies are fourth best in the same department. The Phillies and Mets each are having major pitching issues. This makes me go for the OVER 8 in this game. Braves/Phillies OVER 8

Khris Middleton (20 points) has been a very good compliment to Giannis Antetokounmpo who averages 22.9 points per game. In their two victories, the Bucks have held the Raptors to an average of 80 points. The Raptors defense has been a bit porous and look for this game to be close but take Bucks -2 to cover.

Time for a West Coast battle and some bragging rights with the Dodgers and Giants squaring off. Dodgers starter Hyun-Jin Ryu has not been very good so far this year as he has a 5.87 ERA and a 0-3 record in which he has given up 19 hits in 15 innings. The Giants send Matt Cain to the hill and he has allowed 8 hits in 9 innings along with a 3.31 ERA and a 1-0 record so far this year. Look for the Giants to tee off. Take the San Francisco Giants +115 to win at home.
