Thinking of doing a contest on NBA finals. 25 or 50 Anyone interested. Probably pick every game, side and total. With various bombs. Most points win. Input welcome

Sorry I'm a lil late to the party but better late then never. Looks like we got some work to do in order to get some people back around. Last idiot chased them all away. We all know how to get people to come and that's to post some winners. Everyone wants winners, if there are winners there are followers we just need to bring them back in.

Ok. NBA Finals Contest Rules

Runs thru final game 30 per man Winner take all payable normal means

Most net points wins. If everyone in hole. Least loser wins

Lines will be posted prior to each game. Anyone can post. First to post we use

3 Picks per game

Total Over or Under Worth 10 Points + if win - if lose
Spread winner Worth 10 Points + if win -if lose
Game winner Favorite worth 5 Points Dog worth 8 points(pickem line no play) only + Losers do not subtract

Arsenal Inventory to be used or not. Cannot be used on Game winner. Total or sides only

D Bombs 3 available Doubles value plus or minus
T Bombs 2 available Triples Value plus or minus
Q Bomb 1 available Quadruples value plus or minus

Tiebreaker: must be picked prior to game 1.. Total points by both teams in series

Q1. Can we include the Conference Championships as well as the Finals?
Q2. Instead of having to make all three plays can a player choose how many of the three choices have to be played(or at least make it 2 outta three), knowing that ATS and Totals and dogs are more heavily weighted? To encourage more qualitty plays?
Q3. And last but not least, Can we just make a loss a loss? And not have to penalize a player points, for a loss? CAN YOU IMAGINE HOW BORING A BSKTS. GAME WOULD BE IF THEY TOOK AWAY POINTS FOR EVERY SHOT YOU MISSED? So it's easier to keep track of scores without having to go back and forth on tallyiing. As well as easier to know where you stand in the race. As well as to see some momentum build in the contest. So it doesn't feel so much like a survival contest? And so you have to compete with your own picks to score more, and not so much against others winning/losing. Granted it will lesson some of the gamesmanship at the end if players are close. But it's harder enough just choosing winning picks, or for the novices just getting lucky.

Just how I see it. please give me opposing views if you have 'em! I've forgotten more than I know at this point. And that's a lot in either case, imnsho!

Basically, you can double, triple or quadruple the value of your picks, depending on how confident you are. They are called bombs because if you lose they also count as negative.

So if you have 6 bombs total, you can use them on any pick, but you cant use more that you have. Or you can choose not to use them.

For instance, I pick the warriors -5 game one and I say I want to use D bomb on that pick. its value now becomes a 20 point pick, so if it wins, you get +20 if it loses you get -20.

And I have used one of my D bombs and only have 2 available rest of the the way.

You can use them all or use none. But if you are behind at end and need them, my guess is you will use them to make up ground.

If this all seems too complicated, we can just do a basic contest.

Cpech56. All you have to do to join is to start making picks when games start. Remember this is on the honor system, so if you start picking you are committed to the entry fee, win or lose.

A couple of suggestions.

Let's use the lines from scoresandodds. And whoever post them add the half point to any line that is an even number. Ex: If the line is -7 212 Make it -7.5 and 212.5 that way we will have no ties to deal with.

Maybe take the bombs down to 2 since we may be talking about only 4 or 5 games.

Make the tie breaker the total for the final game since we have no idea how many will be played before hand.

And I am a bit confused on the 3rd option. Are we picking the money line or is this just an added bonus or deduction? If money line we could actually play the underdog plus the points and the favorite for that play on the money line?

Yes you can play the dog with points and also play fav on moneyline. That's the strategy side of it. On the tiebreaker note, we don't know when the final game is unless it goes seven, So basically when you are figuring the tiebreaker, as an added challenge, you will need to guess number of games. I would predict it wont come into play anyway. But we can simplify it and say guess total of game 1.

As far as bombs, its up to the player to decide whether to use them. So I don't think that should matter, but if everyone wants less, that's fine.

I agree with the added half and if you have time, you can post the lines, that way its consistent.

So. Before we start, after all input, questions, etc.. I will post final rules..

There you are, you ol' rattlesnake. I know I just wanna hang, but come on. Please no minus points for losses? What's the point of that? Come on Tex. What's with the Penalty for losing? Half of us are already betting our picks. And the others it cancels out their possibilities for luck! We wanna entice Ice back and a fun crowd? And we're just trying to get the Lounge booted back up!
And what about people who might wanna join in halfway through. And Let's make it last longer so there's more lead time for capping and wagers. And more chance for new people or regulars to catch up to the fact the lounge is back up and we're having a contest. It took me a few weeks before I wandered back to see what was happening. Let alone see the email. And if we do the last two rounds we can start sooner. And people will feel like their getting more for the money they risk and a better chance to win. Even if they come in late?

Plus I might have a chance to win that way. And it's easier for someone(like me) to tally.
And I've seen what happens sometimes with the minusing and halfway through, no one has any idea what others have let alone their own count. And what about Trainman. What's he think? He won a couple of contests, right. And our friend in the Himalayas or wherever that Godforsaken place is at? He needs time to get down the mountain to find a connection. Right?
What do you think, man. I'll even keep an every other day tally. You know how much time that takes. And hell, I might get so excited with my attitude, get fired from my job, after the standardized testing is done, and have more time to moderate the damn thing! And it looks like we'll get 10 or 15 people.

Hey Rich. With the new formatting tools, it may be a helluva lot easier to post odds. And hell a push is a push. Does Scores and Odds have a lot of descriptive data, or is it just odds. You know where I pull'em from? Shows open/current as well as betting trends on same line.
